Who is this training workshop aimed at?
​This training workshop is suitable for anyone, straight or LGBTQ+ identifying. It is useful for LGBTQ+ people, as it will introduce theoretical and practical frameworks from which to understand how stigma and shame associated with ones sexual and/or gender identity contribute to mental health outcomes. It is useful for straight people, as it will highlight the impact improved attitudes and everyday behaviour can have on LGBTQ+ people's mental health and wellbeing.
What are the main takeaways from this training workshop?
​Following the completion of this training workshop, participants will understand how stigma, discrimination and prejudice still in our society today causes LGBTQ+ people to be 3-4 times more likely to suffer with common mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. Participants will understand how minority stress operates and what we all can do to combat stigma and discrimination, to be more supportive of LGBTQ+ people in our everyday lives.
